“Tireless” Advocate Sam Arcement Wins 2024 Outstanding Graduate Program Coordinator Award

Sam Arcement—Director of Graduate Academic Programs for the College of Biological Sciences, and the program coordinator for the Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology (MCIP) Graduate Group—has been honored with the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Program Coordinator Award from the Office of Graduate Studies. This year saw a record number of nominations. “Sam tirelessly ensures that our needs and concerns are heard and addressed,” said one MCIP student, who praised Arcement’s dedication to student advocacy.

Requests for COVID-Related Adjustment to Summer TA Assignments

Dear Graduate Students,

As was the case in fall 2021 and winter and spring 2022, the default mode of instruction for both summer sessions 2022 will be in-person, with an exception for hybrid and virtual courses previously approved by the Committee on Courses of Instruction (COCI).

Remote Participation for QEs in Summer 2022

Dear All,

The recommendation for Qualifying Examinations scheduled for Summer 2022 will be the same as the current quarter: we encourage all graduate programs to hold QEs in person. However, we recognize that continued flexibility may be needed. Thus, the process for reviewing and approving Summer 2022 QEs will be the same as that for Spring 2022. 

Students may request any of the following formats for their Summer 2022 QE:

Lauren Worrell has been awarded Winner of Region 9 Excellence in Advising - Advisor Primary Role and Rosaiela Rodriguez received the Certificate of Merit of Region 9 Excellence in Advising - Advising Administrator.

Native American Studies Department to Host Virtual Graduate Student Symposium

The 2021 symposium will be held virtually and will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. PST Monday, April 26, to Thursday, April 29. This year’s theme, “From Red Power to Wallmapu Libre and Land Back: Engaging Hemispheric Indigenous Resistance Movements,” hopes to facilitate a forum that recognizes and connects the continued relevance of Indigenous resurgence especially significant in recent events.
