John E. Kinsella Prize

About the Award

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) has established the Kinsella Memorial Prize in honor of late Dean and Professor John E. Kinsella.  The award will be given to an outstanding individual who submits their Ph.D. dissertation to Graduate Studies between March 10, 2018 and March 8, 2019. The major professor of the recipient must have an appointment in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.  Each graduate group/program may submit one nomination and each will be judged on the quality and originality of the work, the multidisciplinary impact of the research and, the importance of the research to the college’s mission to serve agriculture, the environment, and human health and development.

The annual award of $3,500 will be given to an outstanding individual(s) who submits their Ph.D. dissertation to Graduate Studies between March 7, 2020 and February 26, 2021. The major professor of the recipient must have an appointment in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Each graduate group/program may submit one nomination, which should include the name and department of the major professor, a one-page abstract of the dissertation, an electronic photo and short bio (maximum of 300 words) of the nominee, and a nomination letter from the graduate group/program chair that may include endorsement by the major professor, if preferred (maximum of 3 pages total), that elaborates on the following:

  • the quality and originality of the work,
  • the multidisciplinary impact of the research and,
  •  the importance of the research to the college’s mission to serve agriculture, the environment, and human health and development.
